Sticking with the starting point of a post a few months ago, it’s another musical reference. This time, the brilliant voice that is Feargal Sharkey and his hit ‘A Good Heart’. For anyone who hasn’t got a clue what I’m talking about the link to the video is here. For those of you with a really good memory, you might even remember his previous incarnation in The Undertones who’s hit Teenage Kicks is one of the best pop songs ever written. Click here for that.
Anyway, I digress.
Everybody needs a heart. Everybody needs one that’s working properly. Unfortunately, sometimes they don’t and that can be a real problem, possibly even a terminal one. In the past, the only way for a company to help someone with a heart problem was to make them comfortable and call an ambulance. Sometimes that worked. Sometimes it didn’t. Thankfully times have changed and technology in the shape of Automated External Defibrillators are now common and helping to improve the chances of someone recovering from a heart related incident.
That is of course, if you’ve got one to hand along with someone trained to use it. Having just re-trained one of our first aiders, it’s becoming apparent that having one on site is probably going to be a statutory requirement in the not too distant future which raises a problem. The cost. These machines are not cheap. Just over a thousand pounds to buy plus the costs of maintaining them. I reckon that probably puts a lot of smaller firms off.
So enter Concept Hygiene Ltd and a brilliant idea to help more firms get one on site. Don’t buy it, rent it for the princely sum of one pound per day which also includes all the maintenance and support. We’ve gone down this route and installed it in our mess room.
Now it’s all well and good looking after your own workforce but wouldn’t it be nice if this became a resource that anyone could use. Why not advertise that we’ve got one. Why not indeed.
The more a company can do to help it’s local community the better. It just a simple plastic sticker that could someday save someone’s life.
